Don Cox
Mr. Cox specializes in financial security, investigative procedures, executive protection, organizational preparedness and survival issues.
Prior to joining Powhatan Group, Cox was the former director and owner of W-16 Companies providing security consulting services. He has more than 30 years of experience in both public and private organizations, specializing in executive protection and investigative services.
Prior to W-16 companies, Cox was the former Head of the Financial Crimes Task Force and Assistant to the Special Agent-in-Charge (ATSAIC) for the United States Secret Service. He was in charge of a division comprised of federal, state, and local police officers who investigated financial frauds in banking, government programs and international affairs. In this role, Cox was also accountable for investigating product and trademark violations and cyber crimes. With the Secret Service he protected six Presidents, seven First Ladies, numerous foreign heads of state and other dignitaries. He served in five Field Offices, on the Presidential Protective Detail and taught law at the Secret Service Academy.
Cox began his career as an FBI agent in the Los Angeles Field Office. At FBI Headquarters (1977) he was assigned to edit the John F. Kennedy assassination files for release under the Freedom of Information and Privacy Act (FOIPA). He was an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Department of Justice in Tampa, Florida, and later a partner in the law firm of Cox and White, P.A. He received his J.D. degree from Baylor Law School (TX) and his B.U.S. with emphasis in Political Science from Morehead State University (KY). He is also a published author.
